Chinoiserie: West Meets East
Lecturer: Sam Marsh
Sam and Marion Marsh are newly arrived in Guernsey having come here in 1978. They arrived after living a few years in Hong Kong where their passion for Chinese Porcelain was ignited. This culminated in Sam writing his book “Brushpots; A Collectors View” an encyclopaedic account of their collection.
In this talk, we look at how in the 18th & 19th century and even today, the West views and how it reacts with countries/cultures in the East. This influence encompasses art, architecture, design and many other areas of our life today.
